As President Biden tries to force electric vehicles (EVs) on the American people, auto manufacturers are pivoting to meet his will. One of the problems that is coming up is the interference of the AM radio airwaves and the electric engines. The electrical discharge of the motors is picked up by the airwave bands and transmitted through the speakers.
Instead of isolating the motors, or putting in an insulator to protect the antenna, major manufacturers have instead opted to eliminate the AM radio as a whole. BMW, Volkswagen, Mazda, and Tesla have all removed the AM radio function in their latest EV production models, and Ford will be removing them from all models.
This move strikes a crucial blow to the 4,158 AM radio stations across the country. For many, these airwaves are the home of their news, political discussions, sports coverage, foreign languages, and are the home for driver emergency messages. When the weather is at its most treacherous, the AM radio bands are the most reliable. This is because they tend to not only travel the furthest, but they tend to have less of a fall-off point than the FM bands.
Back in April, conservative radio host Mark Levin tried warning his listeners about this happening. “The automobile is essential to liberty. It’s freedom. So the control of the automobile is about the control of your freedom. They finally figured out how to attack conservative talk radio.”
Cars have been trimming features to save on expenses, all while making them more expensive for ages. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, you had a mixture of everything as standard options, or in easily chosen upgraded trim packages. Since then, things that had become standard suddenly became options that would only come as part of an insanely overpriced package that wouldn’t pair together for reasons nobody but engineers ever understood.
We cannot let them take the AM radio. This last piece of American freedom is like the CB radio, and when Biden crashes the country it will be worth its weight in gold.
