A stuffy security guard at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum kicked a group of Catholic students out of the facility because he didn’t like their hats. The kids were visiting DC for the March for Life back on January 20th, and went to the museum after celebrating the reduction of baby murders in America after Roe v. Wade was finally overturned. They were wearing blue beanies with a pro-life slogan on them, and the security guard pitched a hissy fit and threw them out.
The security guard first ordered the kids to take off their hats. Fortunately, it sounds like they were raised well.
They refused because they are Americans and can wear whatever hats they want in public. The students also had a good reason for wearing those particular hats. If they got separated from their group while touring the large and crowded museum, the blue beanies would help them identify each other from a distance. They were wearing them not only because of the pro-life message and for school pride, but also for safety because they’re a bunch of high school kids in a strange city.
So, what was the “offensive” message on their hats that caused a grownup to have a tizzy fit?
“Rosary Pro-Life.”
That’s it. That’s all the hats said.
But that was enough to trigger an anti-Christian and un-American bigoted Democrat who was drunk on their own power. When the kids refused to take off their non-offensive hats, the guard turned into a total Nazi and violated their civil rights. The guard kicked them out of a museum that their parents’ and grandparents’ tax dollars paid for. (Come to think of it, they pay the idiot federal employee/guard’s salary too.)
The students and their chaperones were all from the Our Lady of the Rosary School in Greenville County, South Carolina. The security guard told them that the museum was a “neutral zone.” That was the excuse on the day of the March for Life for kicking them out.
This is obviously absurd on its face because there is no such thing as neutrality to liberals.
As the parents of two of the students noted, a woman wearing a rainbow flag COVID mask was not asked to remove her mask or to leave the museum. She was perfectly welcome to display the symbol of her weird religion, while the normal and polite Christian kids were not. How’s that for neutral? If the kids had been wearing BLM hats, the guard never would have said, “Boo” to them – and we all know it.
Parents of the kids are now threatening to sue the museum, which they should. The bullying security guard should also be immediately fired. You don’t get to violate the First Amendment rights of children to freedom of religion and freedom of speech in America. Not ever.
The museum, to its credit, is now backpedaling. A spokesperson issued the following statement to the press about how it violated the civil liberties of a bunch of Catholic kids:
“Asking visitors to remove hats and clothing is not in keeping with our policy or protocols. We provided immediate training to prevent a re-occurrence of this kind of incident, and have determined steps to ensure this does not happen again.”
That doesn’t sound like they’ve fired the bigoted Democrat security guard. This all has shades of the scandal with the Covington Catholic students who were harassed by BLM activists back when Donald Trump was in office. Teenager Nick Sandmann was branded a racist by the media for wearing a MAGA hat, and he ended up winning tens of millions of dollars from the leftwing outlets that smeared him. As Andrew Breitbart said years ago, “Punch back twice as hard.”
Here’s wishing the parents and students luck if they do move forward with a lawsuit.
